Edwina Dunn, Chair of the Your Life campaign

Edwina joined CACI as a graduate and spent the early part of her career working with small area statistics and the OPCS Government (Census) data. Key to the success of CACI (ACORN) and subsequently Experian (Mosaic) was data “barnardisation”* – the masking of individual census returns to protect the privacy of the citizen. The unit used is an enumeration district or output area, typically 15-150 households.

She went on to found dunnhumby with her partner Clive Humby.

She has an Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration, awarded by Derby University, was invited to become an Honorary Fellow of Cambridge University, Lucy Cavendish College in 2014, and was made an Honorary Fellow and Patron of the Market Research Society (for her knowledge of data and best practice Data Privacy and Security). She is also a Trustee of the Science Museum Foundation.

She holds a number of positions aside from her commercial interests (CEO of Starcount and Director/Investor in Purple Seven) which include being Chair of Government backed and Private Sector Sponsored “Your Life Campaign” (a Community Interest Company) which seeks to promote the STEM subjects to 14-16 year olds across the UK.

She is Founder and Chair of The Female Lead (not-for-profit), which celebrates the role women play across the world and aims to inspire youth with the many ways in which women can enjoy and celebrate success.

She was appointed as Non-Executive Director of HMRC in 2012 with an expert focus on Data and Digital Transformation (including Customer/Citizen Charter & Data Sharing Best Practice).

She also sits on Minister Ed Vaizey’s Digital Economy Council and is working with a team of experts on a plan to recommend Government Best Practice for consumers around Digital &Internet of Things (Customer Charter).
