In September, Simon Perryman posted about the UK Commission’s move towards our new investment culture.
Several projects are now up and running and we recently met up with one of the Sector Skills Councils to see how they are getting on.
Skills for Logistics are exploring the feasibility of a Modern Logistics Guild and have undertaken some very interesting research into what a Guild could deliver for the employers in their sector.
It was pleasing to hear about the engagement Skills for Logistics have undertaken with their employers to understand their views. The aim of this work is to understand if a Guild, or Guild-like function, could improve the quality of the workforce in the Logistics sector and how it could be organised to deliver the most benefits.
It was also fascinating to hear about the difference in views employers had about Guilds. Some saying they are old fashioned and out-dated whereas others are at the opposite end of the spectrum, saying they provide a stamp of quality.
What do you think? Can there be a modern Guild? Or is the concept too out-dated?
